Building a Relationship With Your List Is Essential to Doing Business Online

By: Yvonne A Jones Category: Branding, Business - Entrepreneur, Business - Home-Based Business

You have heard that the money is in the list; however, successful marketers will tell you that this is only partially true.  If you are new to Internet Marketing one of your first goals is to build a responsive list.  There are many important reasons for that, which we will discuss in another post.

It’s important to note that the level of responsiveness that you will receive from your list of subscribers is in large part due to your efforts.  I firmly believe that communication is the lifeblood of any relationship, and building a relationship with your subscribers, your readers, even other online marketers, is cemented by communicating with them.

You can do this by –

  • Sending them valuable e-mails through autoresponder messages
  • In these e-mails you can offer valuable tips and recommendations
  • Do surveys to get to know them better
  • Provide answers and recommend resources that can solve the problems or concerns they have
  • Send an ezine or newsletter
  • Provide an e-course, which will help to establish your credibility and brand you as an expert in your niche.

As a beginner you may feel you do not have the resources the provide this type of information.  We will also discuss sources that you can get immediate information from to build this relationship in another post.

  1. Hi Yvonne:

Thank you for the blog post on email list. I am still building my opt-in box. This article is a resource on cultivating and building a relationship with the list after readers have filled out the opt-in box. Look forward to reading your next blog article.

  2. Hi Jane. For over a year I’ve had Mentors who talked about the importance of having an opt-in page, landing page or squeeze page that’s designed to build your list and I didn’t believe it was really necessary. Once you have this in place it makes a huge difference. I’ll be posting more on that topic. I’m glad you found the post helpful.

What a timely post, Yvonne. Were you reading my mind?! 🙂

Just last Saturday I was telling Gwen and Joyce that I’m going to create a survey to send out to my list. Just something easy and short – a couple of questions. I’m going to ask them how often they’d like me to send them valuable information (biz tips, inspirational articles, freebies, etc.)

The title of your post says it all – we’ve got to focus 100% on building relationships with our subscribers. I know that I get WAY TOO MANY emails every day and I suppose my list does, too. So one way I can help to strengthen my bond with them is to let them know that I’m aware of how most of us feel about getting our inboxes jammed up all the time – mostly with useless stuff and promise that I won’t do that with my correspondence.

    Great topic!
    Melanie
