Starting Your Online Business: An Interview with Chris Farrell

By: Yvonne A Jones Category: Mindset, online business, Uncategorized

Now that you have developed the right mindset and a simple business plan in place, you’re ready to take the next steps in starting your online business.  Before we discuss some of the technology you need, I’d like to share a video interview with Chris Farrell, an Internet Marketer who has made millions since coming online in 2008, and who has a wonderful teaching style.

In this interview Chris explains that it is possible to make money online, but there are some things you need to be aware of so you do not become discouraged easily.

As Chris mentioned, you must treat your online business as a business, and like any other business it takes time to start making real money in your online business because there are systems that need to be in place first.  We start discussing those in my next post in the series.

What are your thoughts on the video? Do you believe Chris Farrell painted a realistic picture?  Please share in the comments.

Starting an Online Business – A Lot Like Starting High School

By: Yvonne A Jones Category: online business

studying for a test Today I reflected on the fact that I came online at the end of 2008 and really started building my business in the summer of 2009.  You may wonder why there’s a gap of about seven months between coming online and really building my business.

Think back to when you graduated from Middle School or Junior High and went on to High School.  In some countries, as in Jamaica, you graduate from Elementary School and go  directly to High School.  In Junior High you may have been a ‘big cheese’; you were on the Honor Roll and in the Top 10 in your grade, or maybe even school.  You may also have been ‘Teacher’s Pet.’

Now here you are at High School and you realize your security blanket is gone!  You realize (more…)

How to Increase Revenue with Adsense – 3 Ways to Start

By: Yvonne A Jones Category: Business - Entrepreneur, online business

There are many tools available to internet users, and Adsense can be a powerful tool to increase revenue, if it is done properly. I recently read where one marketer said that ‘Adsense is for lazy people.’ Nothing could be farther from the truth! Work is involved in setting up these sites. Your site must have good content, your title and content must be keyword rich, and you must position your ads correctly.

1.  Good Content : There is a plethora of information available on the internet and people have no time or need to read useless information. If you want to keep your readers reading through to the end of the post or article, it’s important that you provide them with content on the (more…)

By: Yvonne A Jones Category: online business

A number of persons are beginning to appreciate that money can be made from having a website displaying Adsense ads, and having many of these sites, they can become valuable revenue sources.  The great thing about it is that the income from these sites will be a monthly residual income with very little work on your part.

There is work involved initially as you want to be sure that each site has content that is relevant to the topic and you have keyword rich posts on the site.  You can add posts later on, but having a site with five or six pages is a great place to start.

Google Adsense is a fast and easy way for website publishers of all sizes to display relevant and text-based Google ads (more…)

More and more moms are getting into the blogging scene. Some for fun, some for profit, and some for both. Why not make money while you’re blogging about your favorite stuff, right?

It’s easier than ever to get started blogging. But the first thing you need before you begin is an idea for your domain name.

What is a domain name?

It’s the “www (dot) SOMETHING (dot) com” that people will type in to get to your blog. It’s like your address.

Focused Action Required for Online Business Success

By: Yvonne A Jones Category: Business - Entrepreneur, online business

One acronym for F.O.C.U.S is Follow One Course Until Successful.  Focused action can also mean turning your back on the audience so you can guide the orchestra to produce beautiful, melodious, well-coordinated music.

Last week I attended the 8th Grade Graduation Ceremony of one of my young friends and a segment of the ceremony was a musical piece by the 8th grade band…and what a beautiful selection it was! As I watched and listened my eyes were captured by the movements of the teacher who was conducting the band.

Her back was to the audience and her attention was focused on guiding, by the movement of her hands and the baton, the orchestra so that each member of the band knew exactly when to come in, and when to play louder or softer. This ensured that we, the audience, derived the best enjoyment from the musical piece.

As entrepreneurs we are the band leaders or conductors of our (more…)

How to Increase Your Business by Outsourcing or Delegating

By: Yvonne A Jones Category: Business - Entrepreneur, online business

As small business owners, solo-professionals, or entrepreneurs we may feel that we have to do everything for ourselves, and admittedly it may be hard to relinquish control to someone else, especially to persons we do not know personally, like a Virtual Assistant.   We may resist the idea of outsourcing or delegating work to others.

Approximately 10 years ago in the early stages of one of my self-employed businesses I was advised that to experience tremendous growth it was essential to delegate certain tasks to others so I could focus on the areas of my business that only I could do and would bring me the most results.  Initially I did not believe it and felt that would be just spending money I did not need to.  When I finally applied the advice, I immediately saw the positive impact it made on my business.

Are there tasks in your current business you struggle with?  What are your weakest areas?  How much time do you spend trying to do things (more…)

Critical Elements of Your Written Business Plan – The Sections (Part 2)

By: Yvonne A Jones Category: Business - Entrepreneur, online business, Uncategorized

The first part of your business plan takes into consideration your target audience, what they expect, and how the product or service you will be providing will meet or exceed their needs and expectations.

The following sections will apply across the board, but keep in mind that if your audience includes investors, venture firms, and or banks, your business plan would be much more detailed.  These are ‘bare bones’ guidelines written with the entrepreneur, solo-professional, or small business owner who needs to have a written business plan to serve as a guide or track to run on.

When organizing a business plan, break it down into sections such as:-

 1.  Business summary – The product or service you will provide.  What you will have to offer must be clearly defined.  Imagine that a stranger is reading your document.  By the end of the first paragraph your reader must clearly understand whether you will be (more…)

Critical Elements of Your Written Business Plan – Part 1

By: Yvonne A Jones Category: Business - Entrepreneur, online business

If You Don’t Know Who Your Target Audience is, You Cannot Serve Them Effectively.

The first step in creating a Business Plan is to identify who your “target market,” “target audience,” or “ideal client” is.

This is a critical first step.  By starting a business online you have become an online marketer.  Whether you’re selling a service or products you will be in the business of marketing.  It therefore means that your marketing message must be crafted to attract and meet the needs of your particular audience, in order to produce effective results.

If you attempt to target everyone, you’ll probably have very little impact on anyone as your message and methods of delivery will be diluted.  Your message must educate your audience or market on how your product/s or services will meet or exceed their expectations.  They need to know how they will benefit by (more…)

Real-Time Schedule of Routine Tasks Important to Self-Management

By: Yvonne A Jones Category: Business - Entrepreneur, online business

Certain tasks in your business are routine or predictable tasks.  You need to do them daily and sometimes several times per day for best results.  Some of these could include:

  • Reading and replying to emails
  • Spending time on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn
  • Visiting forums
  • Read and comment on three or four blogs
  • Watch You Tube videos for training purposes
  • Watch training videos from a Webinar you did not get to attend, or training for a product you purchased.

Every one of these tasks is important to your overall business plan, but each one can result in time-drains if you do not do real-time scheduling to set limits (more…)
