How to Increase Revenue with Adsense – 3 Ways to Start

July 15, 2011 By: Yvonne A Jones Category: Business - Entrepreneur, online business

There are many tools available to internet users, and Adsense can be a powerful tool to increase revenue, if it is done properly. I recently read where one marketer said that ‘Adsense is for lazy people.' Nothing could be farther from the truth! Work is involved in setting up these sites. Your site must have good content, your title and content must be keyword rich, and you must position your ads correctly.

1.  Good Content : There is a plethora of information available on the internet and people have no time or need to read useless information. If you want to keep your readers reading through to the end of the post or article, it's important that you provide them with content on the topic of your choice that they can use to solve a problem or bring them the desired results.

You may already have a wealth of knowledge on the topic; share that information without holding back. This increases your credibility and establishes you as an expert in your niche. People will want to read your posts. If your information is limited, do research so that you can meet this criterion.

Keyword Rich Title and Content: Keyword research is extremely important for your posts to be found by the search engines. A keyword-rich title is the first step in this direction, but it must also be a title that attracts your readers.

Your content must also be keyword-rich, so it's important to do keyword research. It's also important to remember that you're basically writing for both humans and robots. Humans to enjoy and benefit from your information, and robots to crawl and find the keywords they're looking for so that your posts can rank highly in the search engines.

3. Ads Positioning: The recommended area for positioning ads is upper left. I have not done any research to see if this is scientifically correct, but research indicates that this is the preferred location to achieve maximum results. On a base level it makes sense as we read from left to right, and so our eyes go to the top of the page and to the left first. Regardless of the reasoning behind it, this is the location that has proven to be most effective for Google Adsense positioning.

Conclusion : You are hardly likely to get rich in a short time from Adsense sites, but as one of my favorite marketers said, they create ‘popcorn money.' Money pops up from different places without your having to do consistent work, and it's a way to increase revenue. Think of your online business as a huge farm where the farmer plants different types of crops that bear fruit or mature at different times. Your Adsense sites will be another type of ‘plant' that will produce fruit in your online business.

  1. Good article Yvonne. You captured my attention with this clever analogy.
“Think of your online business as a huge farm where the farmer plants different types of crops that bear fruit or mature at different times. Your Adsense sites will be another type of ‘plant’ that will produce fruit in your online business.
Using word pictures is one of the key points I share in teaching people how to write. Word pictures are one of the most effective ways to get people to remember your content so that would be a tip I would add. 🙂

    Keep up the good writing!

  2. Thank you, Sharon. That is such a nice compliment. You know you’re my model for improving my writing skills and I appreciate that comment very much. People remember stories so much more than anything else and are willing to share the story (and hopefully the lesson) with others.

Yvonne thanks for posting on this topic. I dont know a lot about adsense – I dont know what they look like, how the payment system works (do you pay, or they pay you).
Maybe you can answer these questions for me
    1) Can you pick the ads for your site – important for me as I have a very specific niche
    2) Can an adsense site integrate with any site, or is it one or another
    Thanks so much

  4. Maureen,

Those are great questions, Maureen, and I’ll do my best to answer them. I’ll also write a post explaining those points as other persons may have similar questions.
    1) Those of us who have Adsense on our websites are called Publishers and are paid by Google. First, once you have a Google email account you can go to http://google.com/adsense and apply for an account. Sometimes it takes days.
    2) I just looked at your site. You provide a lot of encouragement to your readers! You’re not able to select the specific ads, but Google places ads that are relevant to your content. I’d suggest that to see the possible ads, put in some of your keywords in Google and see what ads are displayed in the sidebar. To give you an idea how Google matches ads to content, please look at two of my niche blogs with adsense http://saygoodbyetodiabetes.com and http://stayingfitandfabulous.com The ads on the right are from other sources, but you can see that the Google ads match the topics on the site.

Hope this helps. If I can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to send me an email at yjones at mysuccesscircleonline.com

Thanks Yvonne for your tips and advice on Adsense. I like the term ‘popcorn money’! I have been receiving popcorn money checks for several years now, but it doesn’t happen overnight with Adsense.

You have to have a site with a pretty steady stream of traffic. Then you have better chance of more people clicking on your ads. But as you point out, good content with awesome titles are key.

I woke up this morning and picked up my iPhone only to be greeted with a bunch of emails that announced to me that I had more “popcorn money”. That is a really good way to start your day.

  8. Thanks for sharing that it has been working for you, Lynn. That’s encouraging because too often people don’t see immediate results and they give up. Yes, it does take some work, but those little amounts do add up.

  9. Those little amounts ‘popping up’ here and there sound so good 🙂

  10. That’s exciting, Jason. And whether we create these minisites ourselves or become a member of your program, which I recommend, it’s a good feeling (and good for our business as well.) Thanks for stopping by.
