Internet Marketing For Beginners – What Is FTP and How Do I Do It?

January 21, 2011 By: Yvonne A Jones Category: online business

When I first came online in 2008 there were so many things I did not understand and there was no one in my circle offline I could ask.   I remember in the very first class I took online the instructor told us we could copy his example and use his page on our own websites.  That was wonderful!  But how could I get the information from his computer to show up on my website?  This is done by a process called File Transfer Protocol (FTP), but I did not know the name, what it is, or how to do it.

I was so frustrated because in response to my question, I was told just to go ahead and “copy and upload it.”  Upload it? How?

If you are new to internet marketing or recently started a business online, do not be intimidated by the process. It really is pretty easy when you know how to use File Transfer Protocol (FTP) to transfer files from your computer to your websites.  I've found that Chris Farrell explains how to do this very clearly in this video.  Enjoy and please feel free to leave a comment below.

This video from Chris Farrell is a godsend, Yvonne — I’ve never seen FTP explained so thoroughly and yet so simply!

Anything and everything can seem really scary when you’re first starting out online — just like awakening to being greeted by a big ugly monster every morning. It takes time, patience, courage, perseverance, and faith to get through the learning curve!

Thanks for sharing Chris Farrell and all of his wonderful resources and videos.

Thanks so much for this! FTP has been a thorn in my side! This is great for us non-techies!

I’ll second that motion, Judy!! FTP has been the proverbial thorn in my side, too.

Keep the good stuff coming our way, Yvonne! 🙂

  4. Melanie and Judy: I am really, really happy to know that Chris’ video has helped both of you. I can sense from your comments that this, as Judy puts it, ‘has been a thorn in her side’ and I can relate. The first time I visited his site about a year ago I was blown away by the detailed videos; and he just keeps adding and adding.

His membership is great and everyone in the forum is very supportive. Chris Farrell is definitely the ‘how to’ person to go to.
