Reward and Recognition – Benefits of Self-Motivation
Dale Carnegie is quoted as saying that “most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all!â€
There is a great deal of truth in that statement, and a long line of people in history to prove it. People who were told that they should give up; people who were told that they would or could never achieve a goal; people who experienced tremendous setbacks. What they all have in common is that they never gave in; they never gave up; and they remained motivated to pursue their goals despite the naysayers.
Two persons of different generations who displayed tremendous self-motivation and experienced both personal reward and recognition immediately come to mind. They are –
1) Thomas Edison: The numbers vary, but 1,000 times seem to be the most popular number, before Mr. Edison successfully completed his invention of the light bulb. In response to a reporter who asked him how it felt to fail 1,000 times, Mr. Edison replied, “I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps.”
2) Michael Jordan: Michael was cut from his high school varsity basketball team twice and experienced the pain of disappointment, but he did not give up. Instead he practiced harder and played harder. He observed, “I’ve failed over and over in my life. That is why I succeed.â€Â Michael went on to become one of the greatest basketball players of all times.
In both cases, they demonstrated that they were motivated from within. It’s likely that their ability to visualize the successful outcome of fulfilling their goals was a motivating factor in their success. Reward and recognition came to them as a result of self-motivation.
How about you? Are you an Online Business Owner? Reward and recognition can come to you in your online business by implementing the steps necessary to your success; willingness to set goals and be motivated to make the effort to do what it takes to build and grow your online business.
Hi Yvonne,
I love this! It’s so true that success comes from failing and not giving up but gearing up to do better.
I tried for years to get a successful business going online before I became an “overnight” success! LOL.
Keep up the great work. Happy new year!
1keep trying until you get it right! , i never knew mj had been cut from his hs team!
2I like that “overnight” success part, Deb and so love your honesty. So many would have beginners believe that they’ll find the pot of gold in no time, by starting an online business. The reality is that it takes time, which is why self-motivation is so important to keep us going. Thanks for stopping by and sharing in the conversation.
3Yes, and they thought he would just be a bench-warmer when he got to college. Were they wrong! Keep up the beautiful work. Your photos are absolutely stunning!
